We occasionally bring interns onboard for 2-6 months. Interns are unpaid, but we expect to work with schools to arrange academic credit for the work they do with us. So, whether you’re a high school student or a Master’s candidate, please get in touch if you’d like to work with Independence Gardens!

Hello!
I am writing you from Brooklyn, NY where I’ve just completed my PDC course with Andrew Foust and the Center for Bioregional Living. Graduates are meant to be mentees for 2 years through internships and apprenticeships to get our feet wet as well as decide what it is they are most interested in. I am looking to move to the Pacific northwest, specifically the Portland area, to continue my permaculture journey and I’m looking to get involved with a business like yours to gain experience. The question I have is: I am not involved with a university at this time, which would make it difficult to organize getting college credit which is one of the requirements for your internships. How do you recommend students get their credits? Do you know of programs/organizations that interns usually go through? Thank you for your time.
Rebecca
Hi Rebecca!
Getting school credit isn’t a requirement for interning with us–we just require that interns who are looking to get credit manage that process themselves.
What are you most interested in doing, at this point? What period of time are you looking to spend with an organization at this time? Can you send your resume my way?
Best,
Karen
